Well, I finally relented and signed up to 2FA. I won't use Authy and it would probably spit my mobile's OS out anyway (like EasyJet and RyanAir) so it all went ahead swimmingly with my landline number. As we're off to Spain for a couple of months, I thought I'd better add my mobile, but I wasn't allowed to. I sent them an e-mail last night and they rang me this morning: They said I can only have one number (even my 17th Century bank allows me three for crying out loud) and suggested I use my mobile, but I told them that not everyone benefits from a mobile signal out in the sticks when sat by their desktop and that running up and down stairs to get a signal is not my idea of fun. Having clicked the relevant box, my desktop is good for 30 days so they said I could change to my mobile to use in Spain then ring them to change to the landline when we get back. They did their security check but I'd recorded my PIN incorrectly however they very kindly offered to change the phone number if I gave them my login details over the phone! I declined. I did eventually realise what my PIN was meant to be and got the number changed but I was not impressed with them foisting 2FA on me and even less impressed with this. I hear that some people are ranting on IF - as I still appear to be banned, perhaps someone could put a pointer over here.
